Detection Wall from K9 Training Systems

DETECTION WALL SYSTEM

A controlled training surface for detection work

The Detection Wall System is developed to create a structured and repeatable environment for detection training.

Instead of rebuilding the training environment for every exercise, you can change the search problem within the same framework.

Move the hide.
Change the height.
Increase the search area.
Add more modules.

Same foundation. New problems.

FROM IMPROVISED TO STRUCTURED

Detection training is often built around bricks, boxes and other improvised setups.

It works.

But every rebuild can change several variables at once.

Spacing.
Position.
Airflow.
Search pattern.

When multiple variables change at the same time, it becomes harder to understand what actually influenced the dog's performance.

Detection Wall is built around a different principle:

The training surface only changes when you decide to change it.

CONTROLLED VARIATION

Consistency does not mean training should always look the same.

It means variation should be deliberate.

With Detection Wall, you can change:

– hide position
– height
– number of hides
– blank areas
– search area
– search duration
– complexity

without rebuilding the entire environment.

Variation when you want it.
Structure when you need it.

HOW THE SYSTEM IS BUILT

Detection Wall consists of several components developed to work together.

GRID 81

Grid 81 forms the search surface itself.

Each module provides 81 defined positions where Scent Units can be placed.

Multiple modules can be connected to create a larger search area.

3 modules provide 243 positions.
6 modules provide 486.
15 modules provide 1,215.

The larger the surface, the more search problems can be created within the same framework.

SCENT UNITS

Scent Units are used to place training material within Grid 81.

They can quickly be moved between positions without rebuilding the search surface.

That makes it easy to change the problem between repetitions.

A new position.

A new height.

A new search picture.

Same wall.

MODULE LOCK

Module Locks connect the modules, frame and other system components.

The same locking principle is used throughout the system.

That makes the wall easy to expand, reduce or reconfigure as training needs change.

DETECTION WALL FRAME

The frame completes the construction and creates a defined, stable training surface.

It uses the same attachment system as the rest of the wall, making it an integrated part of the system.

FLOOR STAND KIT

Detection Wall can be mounted permanently.

But it can also be used as a freestanding system.

The Floor Stand Kit allows the wall to be positioned where training requires it and moved when the space is needed for something else.

Permanent when you want it.
Mobile when you need it.

WHY NOT JUST USE BRICKS?

Brick walls have been used in detection training for a long time.

And they work.

But they also come with practical limitations.

They are heavy.
Difficult to move.
Often tied to a fixed location.
And the construction itself is fundamentally static.

Detection Wall is developed to provide the same type of clear search surface, but with greater control and flexibility.

THE WALL ITSELF IS MODULAR

In many modern solutions, the hide or holder is movable.

The actual training surface is still a plywood board, an existing wall or another fixed structure.

With Detection Wall, the search surface itself is modular.

Grid 81 is not mounted onto the search wall.
Grid 81 is the search wall.

That means both hide placement and the size of the training surface can be changed within the same system.

REPEATABLE TRAINING

One of the main advantages of a defined training surface is the ability to recreate the same exercise.

Does the dog struggle with a certain height?

Build the same problem again.

Want to repeat the exercise next week?

Use the same position.

Want to present the same problem to several dogs?

Use the same setup.

For the handler, that creates control.

For the instructor, it creates standardisation.

BUILD PROGRESSION

Detection Wall is not designed for one single exercise.

It is a platform that can be used through multiple stages of training.

01 — SIMPLE

Start with a clear and limited search problem.

02 — POSITION

Move the hide between defined positions.

03 — HEIGHT

Work systematically across different levels.

04 — LARGER SEARCH AREA

Add more Grid 81 modules.

05 — INCREASED COMPLEXITY

Introduce larger blank areas, multiple hides and longer searches.

06 — TRANSFER

Move the skill into real environments.

Rooms.

Vehicles.

Luggage.

Warehouses.

Outdoor environments.

LESS TIME BUILDING THE SETUP

When the training problem changes, you should not need to rebuild the entire environment.

With Detection Wall, the problem can change within the same structure.

Move a Scent Unit.

Change the height.

Expand the wall.

Create larger blank areas.

Add more hides.

That shifts the focus away from rebuilding the environment and toward what actually matters:

The dog.
The behaviour.
The progression.

A PLATFORM FOR HANDLERS AND INSTRUCTORS

For the individual handler, the system makes it easier to build consistent training sessions and follow development over time.

For instructors, the same structure creates additional possibilities.

The same problem can be presented to several teams.

The same position can be used again.

The same progression can be repeated across different dogs.

That makes Detection Wall useful for training, problem-solving and evaluation.

THE SYSTEM CAN GROW

You do not need to decide the final size from the beginning.

Start smaller.

Expand as your needs change.

START

3 × Grid 81

243 possible positions.

EXPAND

6 × Grid 81

486 possible positions.

INSTRUCTOR

15 × Grid 81

1,215 possible positions.

Same core components.

Larger training surface.

PART OF A LARGER SYSTEM

Detection Wall is developed to work together with the other parts of K9 Training Systems.

Search Kit
For organised handling and preparation.

Scent Units
For controlled placement of training material.

Detection Wall
For the structured search surface.

Prepare.

Place.

Search.

Evaluate.

Build the next step.

SYSTEM OVER GEAR

Detection Wall is not designed to replace real search environments.

Quite the opposite.

Real environments contain countless variables that cannot be controlled.

That is exactly why a controlled training platform has value.

Use it to:

– isolate a problem
– develop a behaviour
– repeat
– evaluate
– build progression

Then transfer the skill into the real environment.

THE POINT

This is not about replacing bricks.

It is about creating better control over when and how training changes.

Less unintended variation.
More structure.
More repeatable training.

Detection Wall is not just a search wall.

It is a system for building training.
